To make the homebase marker, cut a 300-mm (1-foot) circle from white poster board. Using matte (non-shiny) black paint, add a 12-mm (1/2") border around the outside edge of this circle. The dimensions aren't critical, but the shape should be nicely circular, and the border edges should be smooth and fairly crisp.
